icecream

I just got a bit excited by lipstick. Not normal for me as I'm not really a big make-up fan, but this really makes me want to be a little bit more bothered and a lot more blonde!

I am also getting a little bit obsessed about finding the perfect pair of yellow jeans. Inspired by the make up above (which is by Lime Crime by the way) I suddenly found myself on polyvore building an outfit which if I was 10 yrs younger I would be wearing RIGHT NOW!!

Is green lipstick a good look by the way.....?

Wimbledon...? Woolbledon!

Tennis tennis tennis. What better way to show your appreciation of those toned and tanned athletes then by settling on the sofa with a packet of Jaffa cakes and knitting up a new tennis outfit for your Barbie. Yes, surely everyones knows that woolen knitted tennis gear is the best?! And whos Barbie doesn't need a new outfit?

And just so Action Man doesn't feel left out (I heard he isn't a tennis fan) here's a cracking cricket outfit just for him.

You can get all these patterns from the retro knitting company, but don't get carried away. I did...

the bike is trouble, so let's look pretty

My good friend Helen was in Bristol last night. As it wasn't raining I set off on my (t)rusty bicycle to meet her. All good. Drank and ate pizza. Still all good. Walked back to my wheels. PUNCTURE. Bloody bikes. And I wore sensible shoes so that I could peddle and everything.

So let's change the topic and talk about dresses. My favorites at the moment are by Dahlia. They are based in London and have a very cute shop on Fouberts Place, Carnaby if any of you are passing.

Oh, and what is the consensus on wearing short dresses whilst cycling? Is a flash of knickers acceptable if you are saving the planet?!

taxidermy- good or bad?

I have a lovely new friend on my wall. He hasn't got a name yet but maybe he should have. He is not the little fella from the photo at the top of the page. Well I hope he isn't anyway!

One day he will go and live in the Fox and Feather shop. But I am a bit worried he might scare people. He is a nice fox, I don't know... is taxidermy good or bad?

I bought him from a little old man in Wales. I saw it on his stall and thought he was cool (the fox, but actually the old man was pretty cool too as it turned out) . I didn't have any money, so he let me take it if I promised to send him a cheque in the post! What a very lovely man indeed. Apparantly I have an honest face. Yey!

So now the fox and his dinner are mine. I sent a cheque and all is good.

But is taxidermy good or bad? Let me know, before I scare off all my customers....

Oh and you can now follow this blog by email, just put your email address in the box on the right hand column, and you can comments below if you are feeling chatty xx

Today I have been distracted by these cute new patterns by Colette. I haven't actually ever got around to ordering any, nevermind making them but they just look so good!

new jewellery from lovely Lisa

This has just come in from the fantastic Lisa Galibardy  http://www.galibardy.com. She always has the most amazing stuff. There is so much I want for the new Fox and Feather store! Check out the rest of the collection on her website. I think it is amazingly well priced. I've got  a few things from her in the past and the quality is really good, it feels weighty! Most of her stuff is made from brass so you can just polish it up with some brasso! No need to worry about fake gold rubbing off as you wear it.

A few people have asked my why the blog is called Fox and Feather. Fox and Feather is the 'working title' (?!) for the store I am hoping to open in Bristol. The story behind the name is long and pretty boring but basically came from moving to a part of town that is full of foxes and birds. And something about it just sounded good.  Or is that just me? My sister did say it sounded like I should be selling naughty underwear.... maybe I will!

getting started...

Ok, so.... I have worked in fashion retail for a long time. It started back in 1993 with Saturday job in BHS. Oh the glamour! Since then I have worked for many different companies in many different roles. I have worked my way up from the shop floor and been lucky enough to progress to a Buyer and most recently the Visual Merchandising Manager for a large womens wear chain. I have always worked for High Street brands. As much as I love fashion, I have never had any desire to work for anything else. I like fashion to be fun, affordable and no-one does this quite as well as the UK high street.... or do they?!

Over the last couple of years I have begun to question the approach of the big high street players. Are they really giving us fashion lovers what we want, or are they just drip feeding us their own ideas of what shopping is all about? I believe that fashion retail does not have to be so dull! We are not sheep! Us girls know what we want and how we want to shop. I am not the only girl out there who wants to know a bit about the hardworking creative team who designed their clothes, the process that happened to get the item from studio to shop floor and would love to be able to tell a retailer about the dream item they are searching for. I don't want to be embarrassed that I am wearing high street, ashamed of the fact that somebody somewhere has been exploited to fulfill my fashion whim.

And so I am setting off on an adventure to see if I can create a new type of shop on the high street. A place that says a little bit more about what it sells and listens a whole lot more to the people actually out there shopping and spending money.

Over the next few months I am going to be posting links to different websites, asking for your opinions on what you see. Sometimes it will be clothes, other times accessories, on occasion it might just be a cool idea for display. What I hope to do is get a discussion going about what we really want on our High Street and together create a store that really reflects they way that we want to shop. I am imaging a store with a mix of vintage and new, clothes and accessories, and regular sessions with the designers in store, so I could learn more about the design process and whose clothes I am wearing. Sometimes I'd like to be offered a nice cup of tea as I look around! But that's just my opinion, what would you like in your dream high street shop?

I'll be posting my first link for you all to check out soon. Watch this space!
